Questions about Cash, Check & Credit Card Donations
Can I donate without
using a credit card?
A fund has been setup for Liam at Fleet Bank which is being managed by
liam's parents, Kevin and Andrea. If you wish to contribute to this fund,
make Checks payable to the "Liam James Kane Fund" and mail to:
Fleet Bank
Valley Forge Marketplace
670 South Trooper Road
West Norriton, PA 19403
If you have questions regarding contributions to this fund at Fleet Bank you
may contact Chris Sontag, Vice President/Branch Manager, Fleet Bank.
Phone: 610-631-0717.
How does the online
donations system work?
The online donations system works through
PayPal . PayPal is a very big, established Internet payment
service and is owned by eBay. When you make a donation with a credit card
the money goes to a PayPal account which is managed by Liam's parents.
PayPal deducts about 3% of the donations for processing fees. If you have
any questions or concerns about making an online donation please
contact me. Please do not include credit card numbers in email
correspondence.
What are we
collecting money for?
About a week or so ago a dear friend and neighbor called me and said that he
wanted to put together a fund to help the Kane's
financially. I told him that I had thought about it but figured that
maybe we would wait until we found out exactly what their needs were so that we
could plan appropriately. But then he said, "The last thing I want
is for Kevin to have even 5% of his mind occupied with financial
concerns." I realized immediately that he was on to something I had
totally overlooked. Thank you Dave for pointing this out.
So it is in this spirit that we are collecting money. We are collecting
it because:
-
it will be needed without a doubt for medical, pharmecudical, travel, lodging,
comfort, etc... neuroblastomacancer.org states: “For families
affected by neuroblastoma, the medical costs alone typically exceed $500,000.
With many costs not covered by health insurance, this experience can devastate
a family financially.”
-
it will be one less thing weighing on Kevin and Andrea during this time
and therefore ease their suffering
-
it's for the Kane's
All of the proceeds will go to Kevin & Andrea.
Are credit card
donations anonymous?
As of June 17, 2004 credit card donations are going directly into an account
managed by Liam's parents, therefore they receive full disclosure of each
donation made, including the name, amount, etc...
Are donations tax
deductible?
No. We tried to work this out by creating a non profit organization, but
since all of the money will go to Kevin and Andrea the IRS will not allow a
deduction to the donor. To the best of my knowledge Kevin and Andrea
will not have to pay taxes on the money they receive from the donations.
I have consulted with several attorneys, banks, websites and
other organizations regarding this. I am not an expert so if anyone knows
differently or has experience in the area please
email me.
Are other
fundraisers being planned?
Yes, and as soon as solid information is available it will be posted to this
site and sent out to the email addresses that have signed up to receive
updates.
