God's
Embroidery
contributed by
Sylvia Pituch
When
I was little, my mother used to sew a great deal. I would sit at her
knee and look up from the floor and ask what
she was doing. She informed me
that she was embroidering.
As
from the underside I watched her work within the boundaries of the little round
hoop that she held in her hand, complained to her that
it sure looked messy from where I sat.
She
would smile at me, look down and gently say, "Son, you go about your
playing for a while, and when I am finished
with my embroidering, I will put you on my knee and let you see it from my
side."
I would wonder why she was using some dark
threads along with the bright ones
and why they seemed so jumbled from my view. A few minutes
would pass and then I would hear Mother's voice say,
"Son, come and sit on my knee." This I did only to be
surprised and thrilled to see a beautiful flower, or a sunset. I could not
believe it, because from
underneath it looked so messy.
Then
Mother would say to me, "My son, from underneath it did look messy and jumbled,
but you did not realize that there was a plan on the top.
It was a design. I was only following it. Now look at it from my side and you
will see what I was doing."
Many
times through the years I have looked up to heaven and said, "Father,
what are You doing?"
He has answered, "I am embroidering your life." I say, "But
it looks like a mess to me. It seems so jumbled.
The threads seem so dark. Why can't they all be bright?"
The Father seems to tell me, "'My child, you go about your business of doing My
business, and one day I will bring you to Heaven and put you on My knee and you
will see the plan from My side."

Every
Season contributed by Ryan Lynne McCarthy
Every evening sky an invitation
To trace the path of stars
And early in July, a celebration
The freedom that is ours
And I notice you in childrens gaze
In those who watch them from the shade
Every drop of sun is full of fun and wonder
You are summer
And even when the trees have just surrendered
to the harvest time
Forfiting their leaves in late september
And sending us inside
Still I notice you when change begins
and I am braced for colder winds
I will offer thanks for what has been and what's to come
You are autumn
And everything in time and under heaven
Finally falls asleep
Wrapped in blankets white, all creation
Shivers underneath
and still I notice you when branches crack
and in my breath on frosted glass
Even here and now you open doors for life to enter
You are winter
And everything thats new has greatly surfaced
Teaching us to breathe
What was frozen through is newly purposed
Turning all things green
So it is with you and how you make me new
With every season's change
and so it will be as you are me creating me
summer, autumn, winter, spring
On Eagles Wings
contributed by Annemarie Mountz
You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord,
who abide in His shadow for life,
say to the Lord: 'My refuge,
my God in whom I trust!'
And He will raise you up on eagles' wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of His hand.
The snare of the fowler will never capture you,
and famine will bring you no fear:
under His wings your refuge,
His faithfulness your shield.
And He will raise you up on eagles' wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of His hand.
You need not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day;
though thousands fall about you,
near you it shall not come.
And He will raise you up on eagles' wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of His hand.
For to His angels He's given a command
to guard you in all of your ways,
upon their hands they will bear you up,
lest you dash your foot against a stone.
And He will raise you up on eagles' wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of His hand.
A Prayer for Liam
contributed by Rose
"Father God, I come to you in the name of Yeshua
(Jesus), Your precious Son who died for all that we may be saved and know You
intimately. I thank You, Father, that You have known Liam and have given him to
his parents as a blessing, for Your Word tells us so. Lord God, You truly do
know him and You know all there is to know about this terrible illness that
runs through his body; this little one You formed while still in his mother's
womb. Father, I pray that You will envelope this precious little life with Your
loving arms; hold him, Father, as he goes through this difficult time. I pray
Your comfort will surround the family and all those involved in this situation
and bring Your healing to their hearts as they seek to understand the situation
they face. Father, will you pour out Your wisdom on every professional who
cares for Liam; guide their hands, Lord, and their every decision. Father, I
pray that You would reveal the very root cause of this disease and bring any
revelation to Mom & Dad should any be needed. Father, I pray that You will
have Your way in this situation and bring Your peace into every heart who is
touched by this tragedy. I thank You, Father, that with You all things are
possible; help us Lord to trust You in all things even when we don't
understand. Help us, Lord, to give over the reins of control in our own lives
so that You may have room to move freely in our hearts. I give You glory,
Father, and thanks for You know what we are in need of before we ever even ask.
We love You, Lord, and we confess this situation to be in Your hands ~ a very
safe place to be. Help us Lord I pray; In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
Amen."
My Daughter's Angel
contributed by Dawn Dorsett
Now, I know that we get lots of testimonials
every day, and we shrug most of them off as passed-along hype. But this one's
for real - It happened to me, or more precisely, to my daughter, Caroline. This
is first-hand and for-real.
*****************
My daughter has an angel!! I know this is going
to sound trite and "Oh, yeah, right," but it's true! I've always believed, in a
rather generalized way, in Guardian Angels. Most people I know do, at least on
the surface. It's a comfort to think that someone is looking out for just us -
as long as we don't analyze the belief too closely. I believe now! We were at
Home Depot and I'd been looking at wallpaper borders. The kids' patience had
worn pretty thin and, frankly, so had mine. When they started an innocent game
of "chase me" around the carpet displays, I figured it was time to quit. I
cornered Garrett with a "you're five years old and you know better!" look. At
the time, Caroline was right beside me. I gave Garrett the short-version of the
classic "You have to stay where Mama can see you," speech. When I turned
around, Caroline was gone! My husband was just pulling up with his cart,
finished and ready to go home. I sent Garrett to Daddy and did what the books
all tell you to do - check one aisle to either side then announce - loudly -
that you have a missing child.
The Home Depot staff was awesome! One man was
immediately on the phone giving Caroline's description and ordering what they
call an "Adam Alert." In less time than it takes to tell this - maybe three
minutes - there was an associate at every door and people were fanned out to
search. A few minutes later, a store employee found her playing with the door
display. If you're at all familiar with the way Home Depots are laid out, you
know that's quite a distance from the carpet section - several aisles away on
the back side of the store. The whole episode, from the moment I caught up with
my son to the moment I scooped my daughter up in shaking arms, took less than
ten minutes. The whole time my precious child was missing, all I could think
about was that little girl in Florida and the four-year-old boy right here in
Abingdon. Those were absolutely the longest, most terrifying ten minutes of my
life!
When the man who found Caroline called me to her,
I think she was almost as scared as I was. Here she was, happily opening and
closing a whole line of really fun doors when some strange man not only blocks
her game, but starts yelling, "She's here!" really loudly. She was very quiet
the rest of the day. After a short nap in the car, Caroline seemed fine. I
couldn't say the same for myself. It was bedtime before my head cleared, my
stomach settled and my legs stopped trembling. When we said our prayers that
night, we added a special "Thank You" for her safe return.
As I tucked her in, we talked again about how
important it was to stay where Mama can see her when we're out. She then
volunteered that, "That lady rescued me." I gently corrected her by saying "You
mean the man who found you and called for Mama?" She matter-of-factly corrected
me right back, saying, "No Mama, THAT LADY rescued me." The implication was
clear. The Lady was right there, so there was no way I couldn't see her. That's
what was so strange. There was NO ONE in that aisle with her. The employees in
that section were all men, and every woman within earshot was in the center
aisle listening to my frantic description.
Still, Caroline was adamant. There WAS a lady and
she was right there! Now, at barely three, Caroline sometimes has difficulty
expressing herself verbally. She is often hard to understand, even for me, yet
that one line was crystal clear - and I have never heard her use the word
"rescue" before. I probed a little, thinking the worst of "The Lady's"
intentions. Despite some pretty pointed questions, and an obvious discomfort
when we talked about the "nice man who brought her back to Mama," there was no
fear at all when she talked about her Lady.
As I finished my own nighttime routine, wondering
who had been with my little girl and thinking about how lucky I was that the
store employee had found her when he did, I was drawn to a book sitting on the
top of my magazine rack. Earlier in the day, I had picked it up with the
intention of putting it away. Flipping through it, I had reconsidered and
placed it back on top of the rack. That night, I picked it up again. The
forward spoke of everyday miracles and angels among us - and everything fell
into place. There HAD been a lady watching over my little daughter as she
played with the doors in an empty store aisle - and she stayed just long enough
to make sure my baby girl was safely back in my arms!
********************************
There's a post script to Caroline's Home Depot
episode: Parker's Aunt Mary was his mother's oldest sister. Despite living
hours away in Charlotte, he was very close to "Aunt Sister." She passed when
Garrett was only four months old, never having officially "met" him. The trip
to Charlotte for her funeral was his first road trip - and our first with a
baby. Hearing the cry of an infant, the priest made sure to tell us all to
"tell the little one about Mary." Ever since, Parker has insisted that Aunt
Sister watches over our kids. Well, guess whose name is inscribed inside the
front cover of that book! It gives me chills - good ones. Life is good, but God
is better! -Dawn
Run Through the Rain
contributed by Chris Saello
(Kevin's college roomate)
A little girl had been shopping with her Mom in Wal-Mart. She must have
been 6 years old, this beautiful red haired, freckle faced image of innocence.
It was pouring outside. The kind of rain that gushes over the top of rain
gutters, so much in a hurry to hit the earth it has no time to flow down the
spout. We all stood there under the awning and just inside the door of the
Wal-Mart.
We waited, some patiently, others irritated
because nature messed up their hurried day. I am always mesmerized by rainfall
I got lost in the sound and sight of the heavens washing away the dirt and dust
of the world. Memories of running, splashing so carefree as a child came
pouring in as a welcome reprieve from the worries of my day.
The little voice was so sweet as it broke the
hypnotic trance we were all caught in "Mom, let's run through the rain," she
said. "What?" Mom asked. "Let's run through the rain!" She repeated. "No,
honey. We'll wait until it slows down a bit," Mom replied. This young child
waited about another minute and repeated: "Mom, let's run through the rain,"
"We'll get soaked if we do," Mom said. "No, we won't, Mom. That's not what you
said this morning," the young girl said as she tugged at her Mom's arm. This
morning? When did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet? "Don't
you remember? When you were talking to Daddy about his cancer, you said, 'If
God can get us through this, he can get us through anything!"
The entire crowd stopped dead silent. I swear you
couldn't hear anything but the rain. We all stood silently. No one came or left
in the next few minutes.
Mom paused and thought for a moment about what
she would say. Now some would laugh it off and scold her for being silly. Some
might even ignore what was said. But this was a moment of affirmation in a
young child's life. A time when innocent trust can be nurtured so that it will
bloom into faith. "Honey, you are absolutely right. Let's run through the rain.
If GOD let's us get wet, well maybe we just needed washing," Mom said. Then off
they ran. We all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they darted past the
cars and yes, through the puddles. They held their shopping bags over their
heads just in case. They got soaked. But they were followed by a few who
screamed and laughed like children all the way to their cars.
And yes, I did. I ran. I got wet. I needed
washing. Circumstances or people can take away your material possessions, they
can take away your money, and they can take away your health. But no one can
ever take away your precious memories...So, don't forget to make time and take
the opportunities to make memories everyday. To everything there is a season
and a time to every purpose under heaven. A friend sent this to me to remind me
of life, so I am sending it to you.. Kevin, Andrea and Liam, as you fight this
battle with cancer, remember to still take the time to run throught the rain!
God Bless.
The Brave Little Soul
by John Alessi
Not too long ago in Heaven there was a little soul who took wonder in
observing the world. He especially enjoyed the love he saw there and often
expressed this joy with God. One day however the little soul was sad, for on
this day he saw suffering in the world. He approached God and sadly asked, “Why
do bad things happen; why is there suffering in the world?”
God paused for a moment and replied, "Little soul, do not be sad, for the
suffering you see, unlocks the love in people’s hearts.” The little soul was
confused. “What do you mean,” he asked.” God replied, “Have you not noticed the
goodness and love that is the offspring of that suffering? Look at how people
come together, drop their differences and show their love and compassion for
those who suffer. All their other motivations disappear and they become
motivated by love alone.”
The little soul began to understand and listened attentively as God continued,
“The suffering soul unlocks the love in people’s hearts much like the sun and
the rain unlock the flower within the seed. I created everyone with endless
love in their heart, but unfortunately most people keep it locked up and hardly
share it with anyone. They are afraid to let their love shine freely, because
they are afraid of being hurt. But a suffering soul unlocks that love. I tell
you this - it is the greatest miracle of all. Many souls have bravely chosen to
go into the world and suffer - to unlock this love – to create this miracle -
for the good of all humanity."
Just then the little soul got a wonderful idea and could hardly contain
himself. With his wings fluttering, bouncing up and down, the little soul
excitedly replied, "I am brave; let me go! I would like to go into the world
and suffer so that I can unlock the goodness and love in people’s hearts! I
want to create that miracle!"
God smiled and said, "You are a brave soul I know, and thus I will grant your
request. But even though you are very brave you will not be able to do this
alone. I have known since the beginning of time that you would ask for this and
so I have carefully selected many souls to care for you on your journey. Those
souls will help you create your miracle; however they will also share in your
suffering. Two of these souls are most special and will care for you, help you
and suffer along with you, far beyond the others. They have already chosen a
name for you.”
God and the brave little soul shared a smile, and then embraced. In parting,
God said, “Do not forget little soul that I will be with you always. Although
you have agreed to bear the pain, you will do so through my strength. And if
the time should come when you feel that you have suffered enough, just say the
word, think the thought, and you will be healed.”
Thus at that moment the brave little soul was born into the world, and through
his suffering and God’s strength, he unlocked the goodness and love in people’s
hearts. For so many people dropped their differences and came together to show
their love. Priorities became properly aligned. People gave from their hearts.
Those that were always too busy found time. Many began new spiritual journeys –
some regained lost faith – many came back to God. Parents hugged their children
tighter. Friends and family grew closer. Old friends got together and new
friendships were made. Distant family reunited, and every family spent more
time together. Everyone prayed. Peace and love reigned. Lives changed forever.
It was good. The world was a better place. The miracle had happened. God was
pleased.
***
For Liam and all the Brave Little Souls who bear the pain that
brings out the love and goodness in each of us. In the hope that someday we can
end the suffering in the world by letting go of our fears and allowing the love
God gave us to always shine freely towards everyone.
Footprints
Contributed by Sal Alfano
One night a man had a dream. He
dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed
scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the
sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD. When the last scene of
his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He
noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of
footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest
times in his life. This really botherd him and he questioned the LORD about it.
"LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the
way, But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life,
there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you
most you would leave me." The LORD replied, "My son, My precious child, I love
you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when
you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you." -Author

A Prayer which Could be Recited by Mommy and Daddy in
Liam's Name
Contributed by Geri O'Neal
O
God, I am in your hands. You know me from my mother's womb. O wise Creator,
soothe my pain; heal my body and soul. O Good Jesus, you went doing good and
healing many. Once your hands raised the dead to life, restore my health to me.
Once your hands gave sight to the blind, take me from the darkness of my fears.
Once your hands made the paralyzed walk, let me walk again with my family and
friends. Once your hands were nailed to the cross, strengthen me in sickness
and pain. O Holy Spirit, Giver of Life, Helper and Friend, Source of all good
gifts, bring peace and comfort to me.
Accidents, illness, disease, old age often bring suffering we
cannot explain. Even Jesus Christ did not explain the mystery of suffering. He
tried simply to relieve it where he could. And as his life ended, he took it on
himself. Jesus taught not to give in to sickness, but to fight to regain
health. At the same time, he showed what indirect blessings sickness sometimes
brings. What blessings can sickness bring? It can remind us how dependent we
are on others, and above all on God for life! It makes us see how precious life
is. It invites us to believe, to call for God's help, to accept God's way, and
to grow in confidence that whatever lies ahead all will be well. Passionate

Heavenly Father,
We plead this day, Father, for Your mercy on Liam. Just as Jesus healed the
blind, the lame and the sick we pray that Your healing hand would be upon Liam.
We pray that the treatment he is receiving would a hundred times more effective
then anyone could ever imagine and that the side effects would be minimal. We
pray that You will restore Liam to full health. We pray, Father, that Liam's
time at home would be a time of rest and rejuvenation. We pray for protection
against sickness and infection while his immune system is weak. We pray that he
will have time to play with his friends and enjoy being a little kid again.
Father, we pray that your spirit be upon Kevin and Andrea as they support and
comfort Liam. Give them strength, Oh God, that their resolve would be strong.
Give them endurance when their energy is taped out. Give them rest when they
need rest. We pray you would comfort them during the hard times that may lie
ahead. We pray for Alli, Lord, that you would provide her with all of the love
and support that she needs during this time.
We give thanks for all of the outpouring of love that have been shown by family
and friends. We pray, Father, that as the weeks and months go by that we
continue to keep the Kane family and Liam in our prayers, that our love and
support would not waver.
We pray all of this in the precious name of Your Son Jesus.

friend of mine has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before
him'; and from inside he answers and says, `Do not bother me; the door has
already been shut and my children and I are in bed; I cannot get up and give
you anything.' "I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him
anything because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will get
up and give him as much as he needs. "So I say to you, ask, and it will be
given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
"For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who
knocks, it will be opened. "Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son
for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will he? "Or if he
is asked for an egg, he will not give him a scorpion, will he? "If you then,
being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will
your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?" T
Tonight, I looked up a couple more passages, which I'd like to share, regarding
how even the impossible is possible through God:
Matthew 17:20: ... truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard
seed, you will say to this mountain, `Move from here to there,' and it will
move; and nothing will be impossible to you.
Matthew 19:26: ... And looking at them Jesus said to them, "With people this is
impossible, but with God all things are possible."

in peace and be healed of your affliction."

so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have
received from God.
(II Corinthians 1:3,4)
Though I walk through the valley of the
shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me, thy rod and thy
staff they comfort me.
(Psalm 23:4)
Prayer to the Mother of Sorrows
Contributed by The Gregori Family
My dearest Mother, Virgin Mother of God
and Mother of Sorrows, behold me, your child, in prayer before you. I plead a
special favor through the intercession of your faithful servant, Saint
Peregrine, who was so devoted to you. I pray for the quick recovery of a
special little boy, Liam Kane.
Sorrowful Mother, I beg you to present
my petition to your Divine Son. I know you want me to seek God's Will in all
things, as you always did. Therefore, with childlike trust I abandon myself to
God's Holy Will concerning my request. If what I ask for should be granted,
pray that I may receive that which will be of greater benefit to my soul.
Dear Mother of Sorrows, I love you! I
put all my confidence in you, because your prayers before God are most
powerful. For the sake of Jesus who suffered for my soul as you also did, and
through the intercession of Saint Peregrine, hear and grant my prayer. Amen

THANKS TO GOD
I pray that this will bless you as it blessed me.
Hello God,
I called tonight
To talk a little while
I need a friend who'll listen
To my anxiety and trial.
You see, I can't quite make it
Through a day just on my own...
I need your love to guide me,
So I'll never feel alone.
I want to ask you please to keep
My family safe and sound.
Come and fill their lives with confidence
For whatever fate they're bound.
Give me faith, dear God, to face
Each hour throughout the day,
And not to worry over things
I can't change in any way.
I thank you God for being home
And listening to my call,
For giving me such good advice
When I stumble and fall.
Your number, God, is the only one
That answers every time.
I never get a busy signal,
Never had to pay a dime.
So thank you, God, for listening
To my troubles and my sorrow.
Good night, God, I love You too,
And I'll call again tomorrow!
Amen

Lord God You are the Great Physician, the healer. Only You can heal. And
we are even afraid to ask, because it looks so grave. And yet You tell us that
we are to come to you in faith and ask you for our needs. And so we do. We ask
that you would spare Liam's life. We pray that you would heal the effects of
his chemotherapy so that he will not be so miserable. Please touch him with
your healing touch. And Lord, for those who must watch him suffer, please renew
their strength, help them surrender it all to You and to trust You. It is our
heart's desire that Liam be healed and we bring him into your presence,
humbling asking for this. Amen
